Description

A refreshing traditional Mexican beverage made from rice, almonds, cinnamon, and vanilla.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 1/2 cup blanched almonds
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice and soak it in water with the cinnamon stick for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain and blend the rice mixture with almonds and 2 cups of fresh water until smooth.
  3. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve or cheesecloth into a pitcher.
  4. Add the remaining water, milk, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Stir well until sugar dissolves.
  5. Chill in the refrigerator before serving.

Notes

  • For a creamier texture, you can use evaporated milk instead of regular milk.
