Classic Mexican Horchata

Description

A traditional Mexican drink made with rice, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 5 cups water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Soak the rice in 2 cups of water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  3. Blend the soaked rice with the soaking water until smooth.
  4. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve into a pitcher.
  5. Add the remaining water, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
  6. Serve over ice and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use almond milk instead of regular milk.
  • Horchata can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
