A rich and creamy homemade chocolate mousse that melts in your mouth.
Ingredients

- 4 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 large eggs, separated
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a heatproof bowl, melt the chocolate and butter together over simmering water, stirring until smooth.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until pale and thick.
- Gradually add the chocolate mixture to the egg yolk mixture and stir to combine.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- Fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until no white streaks remain.
- In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the egg whites into the chocolate mixture in three additions.
- Pour the mousse into serving dishes and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate.
- Can be topped with whipped cream or chocolate shavings before serving.
