Description

A rich and creamy homemade chocolate mousse that melts in your mouth.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. In a heatproof bowl, melt the chocolate and butter together over simmering water, stirring until smooth.
  2. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until pale and thick.
  4. Gradually add the chocolate mixture to the egg yolk mixture and stir to combine.
  5. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  6. Fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until no white streaks remain.
  7. In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  8. Gently fold the egg whites into the chocolate mixture in three additions.
  9. Pour the mousse into serving dishes and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate.
  • Can be topped with whipped cream or chocolate shavings before serving.
