- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup golden syrup
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Gradually add the flour and mix until combined.
- Press the mixture into a greased baking dish and bake for 20 minutes.
- In a saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, and golden syrup. Cook over medium heat until the mixture thickens.
- Pour the caramel layer over the baked shortbread and let it cool.
- Melt the chocolate chips and pour over the cooled caramel layer.
- Chill until set, then cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- For a crunchier texture, add chopped nuts to the caramel layer.
- Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
